Vintage French Postcards

I picked up some old French postcards at a thrift store the other day. One is missing a stamp (was it worth lots of money?) and I think the postmark says 05.  That would be 1905, making these more than a century old!  I love the fancy handwriting in the bottom photo. They also make me nostalgic for handwritten letters (not that I have had many occasions to write them)  I have a hard time coming up with things to write when it's to easy to facebook/email/text/videochat with most of the people I know.  I'd have to hold off on communication in order to have anything interesting to say.

But these postcards may inspire me to try!

Airplanes in the Sky

We live under a flight path--either planes taking off from JFK or landing at La Guardia--I can't tell which.  There's something I really like about pictures of planes in the sky. I love flying: you are completely untethered to anything that is touching the ground. It fascinated me as a kid, but now I just think it's fun--I'm sure the whole "destination" part of it helps, too!

Banners and Bust!

We were asked to make a small banner for the Bust Craftacular vendor's page.  I'm very happy with ours, and now I know how easy it is to make animated gifs in photoshop!

City and Green

I love these rooftop gardens. Sometimes it's hard to get direct sun here; our poor little garden suffered from too much shade this summer--but there's always sun on the roof.  It is kind of surprising how much green there is above the city and it makes me happy to see the gardens, even if I can't visit them.

Lomo!

We found an old undeveloped roll of film--Bye Bye Summer!

There's something really beautiful about super low tech old film cameras.  I love these multi-exposure Lomo photos.  We bought some disposable Fuji cameras that were on super sale at the store (usually they are super expensive!).  I kind of miss when film and photos were precious, but digital has made life easy in many ways; being able to see pictures instantly makes so many things possible.

photo booths are completely underrated

Hooray for people who are willing to fix and upkeep these old machines for the sake of nostalgia!  And, of course, we mustn't forget where this magic happened: voodoo doughnuts (the best doughnuts on this side of the atlantic (or pacific, for that matter))   There's something about photo booths that really brings out the best side of outrageous in people.  I love them so much.

We've been going through our old polaroids.  I really like the dinosaurs in the garden.  And crazy kitten Charlie.
